Marwa Hamam
I have been a licensed Canadian dentist since 2011. Although born in Canada, I spent part of my early life in Egypt, where I graduated from the University of Alexandria, Faculty of Dentistry, in 1998. After completing a two-year General Practice Internship at the University of Manitoba, I have been in private practice at Expressions Dental Centre in Ontario since 2012.
Upon returning to Canada, I faced the challenge of obtaining my Canadian dental license. In 2011, I applied to the National Dental Examining Board’s equivalency process, which had just been introduced, and successfully passed all three exams on my first attempt. Given that the program was new, resources were limited, and I had no one to seek advice from, making the process particularly challenging, especially with three young children under the age of 10. This experience motivated me to support others navigating this demanding journey, especially those arriving in Canada with limited networks and resources.
Over the years, I have mentored numerous colleagues through the licensing process, providing guidance and encouragement. I am deeply committed to helping others succeed and easing their transition into the Canadian dental profession. My personal experience allows me to offer practical advice and emotional support, ensuring that no one has to face the challenges of professional integration alone.
As a mentor, I can offer advice on the following:
